Tommy Edman said on July 19, 2026 that consistent preparation and a steady routine are driving his recent hot hitting, regardless of where he bats in the order.
"I think it's just preparation and having a consistent routine," Edman said. He added that he now has a clearer sense of what his swing should feel like, noting, "I feel like I just have a much better knowledge of what my swing needs to look like right now."
Edman explained that part of his process involves catching bad habits before they take hold. He described working on getting bad habits out of the way before they kind of become more and creep into his swing. He also credited his ability to sustain his form since returning from being out, saying, "I've been able to kind of ride it out since I've been back."
Asked about a defensive play at second base, Edman said he was simply looking for the most available out. "Just trying to get an out and easiest out was at second," he explained, noting that the ball's bounce prevented a potential double play.
The interview came after a long day at the ballpark. "It's 10:30. I got here at 9 today," Edman noted, describing what he believed was the team's first doubleheader of the year, "This was our first doubleheader of the year, I'm pretty sure." Despite the long hours, he mentioned watching the entire World Cup game during the day.
Edman noted the team was glad to get the doubleheader out of the way and finish with a series win, saying it was "good to get that one out of the way and good to come out here with a series win."
