Tyler Glasnow said on July 28, 2026 that he feels healthy after dealing with back issues and expects to go on a rehab assignment soon following a live batting practice session. "Yeah, I'd like to go on rehab now and get back as soon as I can," Glasnow said.
Glasnow said the back problem is no longer an issue for him. "I'm over that like the back swing. I haven't thought about it at all for a long time," he said. He described the injury as making any quick or unusual movement feel extremely tight, noting that "anything in deflection or like any weird movement, it feels like it's super tight."
Glasnow explained that he adjusted his mechanics to protect his back, focusing on how he gets down the mound. "A lot of it was due to like just how I was getting down the mound. Um, just keeping like my hips in a good spot," he stated. He added that he pinpointed a turning point in his recovery when he began throwing hard at 90 feet roughly a week or two before facing mounds, saying everything started to feel good around that stretch of his throwing progressions.
He also said he has kept the same mechanical changes he made in the 2025 season going into the playoffs and has not altered anything since. "I just feel better 2026 just from having all those changes 2025, like going into the playoffs and I've just stuck with that," Glasnow mentioned. According to Glasnow, his current focus is on regaining timing and building stamina rather than health concerns, and he plans to review Trackman data to assess how his pitches are coming out.
Glasnow said it's good that players including Edwin Diaz are returning healthy at a good point in the season, similar to the previous year. "Diaz and everyone Blake people are coming coming back at like a perfect time kind of like it was 2025," he said. Glasnow added that he still has rehab starts ahead and will know how he feels once those are completed, saying, "I still have like those rehab starts and I'll come back and then I'll I'll know how I feel."
