Lauer described his approach against Seattle as "just the combination of moving the ball around and um locating fast balls, um doing my best to keep them off balance." He explained that disrupting hitters' timing is central to his philosophy on the mound, noting, "that's kind of like the grail of pitching is to keep hitters off balance, disrupt timing." He added that this outing ranked among his best of the season, saying, "it's definitely definitely one of the better times I felt going out there," even though he felt his curveball wasn't at its sharpest.
