Miguel Rojas addressed his injury scare and the Los Angeles Dodgers' acquisition of Tarik Skubal during a press conference on August 2, 2026.
Rojas said he left the game because he was not feeling well enough to continue playing shortstop, though he did not want to fake an injury to justify the exit. He explained he got X-rays that showed no breaks, adding, "the good thing is like no breaks or back I'm fine." A CT scan had been planned for the following morning, but Rojas said he did not feel he needed it.
Rojas said he would be available to play if needed, noting his role as essentially the only other option at shortstop besides Tommy Edman. He also relayed a message from manager Dave Roberts, who spoke with the position player group about the team's mindset. According to Rojas, Roberts does not care about what happened over the previous two years and wants to win 2026.
Rojas called the Dodgers' acquisition of Skubal a statement from the organization, saying, "it's an statement from this organization uh to the rest of the le and the world that they're not just uh satisfying with what happened the last couple years." He said learning of the trade after a tough series loss was bittersweet but reflected trust in the front office to put the team in position to win. Rojas cited Pete Alonso, who played with Skubal in the Tigers organization, as a source of insight, saying Alonso told him how good of a guy Skubal is with everybody else.
Rojas pointed to Freddie Freeman playing through a dislocated shoulder in the 2024 postseason as an example of players sacrificing their bodies for the Dodgers. He also noted the team is getting Tyler and Blake back from injury, and highlighted Robles' season as a potential rotation option going forward.
