He suggested that his path to this point likely gives him a deeper appreciation for the achievement than most players might have, though he added that he hoped everyone who reaches ten years feels similarly proud.
Turning to the team's recent form, Muncy acknowledged that the club has not been playing well and said this is simply one of those stretches teams go through. He stated plainly that more urgency is needed and that certain issues need to be fixed, while also recognizing that this is simply part of baseball. He noted that a strong two-week stretch could easily put this rough patch in the past, but admitted that the day's loss was especially difficult given the significance of the game.
Asked about the offense's struggles to find traction, Muncy said the team has actually been doing a good job of getting runners on base, but has struggled to drive them in. He described a pattern of hitting the ball hard directly at defenders, including a hard-hit ball that resulted in a double play, and said the group has simply not been getting favorable luck with placement despite doing a lot of things well.
When asked about concerns given that an earlier losing streak this season had been overcome, Muncy said the focus remains on getting runners on base and finding better at-bats in key situations. He also addressed the team's defense, saying it needs to be cleaned up and that struggles in baseball can sometimes snowball, but expressed belief that a good game here or there could help the team break out of its funk.
