Eric Lauer discussed his five-inning outing at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers' 11-1 record in his starts during a press conference on August 18, 2026.
Asked about the team's success in games he has started, Lauer noted, "I think the team's 11 and one in my starts." He also confirmed the length of his outing, referencing "my five innings of work here."
Lauer said he struggled to find a consistent shape on his breaking pitches at altitude. "I just felt like I couldn't really find a consistent shape with anything today, especially the curveball slider," he said. He added that pitching at Coors Field presents a known challenge because conditions differ so much from other ballparks, stating, "It's kind of crazy that we play in a place where everything's just completely different, but I mean everybody has to deal with it." He also mentioned he has some familiarity with the ballpark from prior experience pitching there.
Lauer explained that his focus was on better execution with two outs, aiming to avoid extending innings through hits or walks. "Making sure that I'm not giving up a hit or a walk or something just to extend the inning," he noted. He also expressed confidence in the defense behind him when he allows contact, stating he is "very confident in the defense I have behind me."
Lauer credited the offense's consistent run support as a key factor allowing him to focus on commanding the strike zone, noting, "It seems like every time I go out there, I get some great run support." Asked about the team's success in his starts, Lauer joked about the reason behind it: "I've been paying the guys to score me runs."
