Dave Roberts provided injury and roster updates for the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 5, 2026.
Roberts said Shohei Ohtani took swings with intent and did not report pain during the session. “He did take some swings,” Roberts said, adding, “he was swinging with some intent.” Roberts also stated, “He did not report pain during it.”
Roberts said the Dodgers would evaluate Ohtani’s status after the session: “I'm going to see how he comes in tomorrow.” He also said Dalton Rushing’s throwing was paused after his elbow flared up, with imaging planned for that night or the following day. “put a pin in throwing for now,” Roberts said, while noting, “I still believe that hitting is on the table.”
Roberts confirmed that Bobby Miller was scheduled to start the following game, saying, “Robo will start tomorrow.” He credited Tyler Glasnow with battling through a difficult outing, stating that “he just didn't quit.” Roberts said Glasnow pitched through six innings and attempted to face one hitter in the seventh, had been especially sharp in Detroit, and takes the ball every five or six days.
Roberts also said the Dodgers’ offense needed to create pressure through timely hits, walks and traffic on the bases: “get timely hits, take a lot of walks, create stress.” He described the team’s defensive play at the wall as an emotional boost, saying, “the defense is always a boost.”
The Dodgers’ next listed decisions were to evaluate Ohtani after his hitting session, obtain imaging for Rushing’s elbow and use Miller as the next starter.
