Miller said he had not pitched in a major-league game at Dodger Stadium for 16 months, describing the return as the result of “16 months and a lot of hard work to get back here.” He added that he had always believed he was a major-league player despite the absence.
Miller acknowledged that his command “was nowhere near where I wanted it to be in the first inning,” but said he escaped while allowing one run. He also stated that his recent outings in Triple-A helped him adopt a less tense approach: “whatever happens happens. Don't pitch tense out there.”
His bullpen plan was to “Get strike one every batter, especially to the first hitter.” Miller credited Kyle Tucker with a defensive catch and other plays that helped him through the outing, saying, “what a play by Tuck out there as well.” He described Tucker’s catch as “a big sigh of relief and then it's like, all right, let's go attack this next guy.”
