Edwin Díaz said on September 19, 2026, that he is giving maximum effort to earn a postseason bullpen roster spot with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Díaz said, "I'm giving my 200% just to show them I will be in that roster spot." He added that he had struggled in the majors during the 2026 season and had not pitched much before the current opportunity.
He explained that improved fastball command has helped his slider play better and made him feel good, saying, "when I command my fast ball, my slider play up." Díaz also stated that his last three games, including his final Triple-A game, featured improved fastball command.
Díaz said he worked with the Triple-A pitching coaches, who helped him identify an issue with his hip movement. "we found like I wasn't doing moving my hips the right way," he noted. He also said he remains positive despite injuries and the mechanical adjustments required during the season: "I'm always positive and I know when I click I click."
Dave Roberts can place Edwin Díaz in any game situation, and Díaz said he would accept that assignment and focus on helping the Dodgers win while finishing the 2026 season strongly. "every time when they give me the ball in any situation, I will do my job," he said. He also believes fastball command is central to the success of his other pitches, stating, "If I can command my fast ball, everything play up." Díaz said he threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, pitched on Wednesday and continued pitching later in the week.
