Dave Roberts said on October 4, 2026, that he wants Andy Pages to slow down at the plate, chase hits rather than slug, and avoid trying to do too much. “I just want to see him kind of slow down a little bit,” Roberts said.
Roberts noted that Pages is in a better position than he was in the 2025 postseason but needs to pursue hits instead of trying to slug. After discussing the issue with Pages, Roberts said, “we've managed that one going forward.”
Roberts explained that the Dodgers’ offensive plan is “being stubborn in the zone, making them work, grinding at bats,” with the aim of making pitchers work and forcing opposing managers to cycle through relievers. He also cited Max Muncy’s willingness to come off the bench because it was best for the Los Angeles Dodgers while keeping Miguel Rojas involved.
Roberts stated that Blake Snell is focused and determined because “this is why he came to the Dodgers.” He added that Snell shares pitching insights with Tyler Glasnow, describing them as “sharing trade secrets and trying to sharpen one another's repertoire.” Roberts described Glasnow supporting Snell as “TK is going to be pulling like heck for his teammate.”
Roberts also said that he managed Max Scherzer when Scherzer closed out the Giants in 2021, adding that the workload carried a postseason tax. He said the Dodgers went through five games at the Giants’ place during that postseason run, learned about the Braves’ pitching plan that morning, and mentioned Chris Sale, Holmes, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Freddie Freeman, Kyle and Walt in his remarks.
