Dave Roberts said on October 16, 2026, that the Los Angeles Dodgers were outplayed in every facet and accepted their elimination without regrets or apologies.
“We got outplayed in all facets,” Roberts said. He explained that the Brewers played flawlessly defensively, pitched better, hit better and slugged more than the Dodgers. “It wasn't that we were fatigued,” he noted, attributing the result to Milwaukee besting Los Angeles in every area.
Roberts praised his players for giving everything they had despite falling short. “We gave it everything we had and it wasn't good enough,” he stated. He added that the Dodgers had been trying to win since the early part of February while facing opponents bringing their best. Roberts also described three consecutive long postseason runs, including five World Series games in the 2024 season and seven World Series games in the 2025 season.
Roberts said sports offer no guarantees regardless of preparation. “No matter how much you prepare, you want it. There's no guarantees,” he explained. He cited the Milwaukee Brewers' 103-win season as evidence that they earned their advancement, saying they beat the Dodgers in four games. He credited Matt Arnold for leading Milwaukee Brewers baseball operations and Pat Murphy for managing the Milwaukee Brewers.
Roberts also discussed Shohei Ohtani, saying he trusted Ohtani despite the player not being fully healthy and calling him “the best player on the planet.” Ohtani hit a three-run home run for the Los Angeles Dodgers, which Roberts described as reflecting “a lot of pent up anger, frustration.” Roberts said he had a good conversation with the Dodgers players after the season ended and told them how proud he was.
