Joey Ortiz drove in both of the inning's headline runs and finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, a triple, a walk and two runs scored. His night carried Milwaukee's offense, and it earned him game MVP honors.
Marcus Semien opened the scoring with a home run to left in the top of the second, putting New York ahead 1-0. Milwaukee answered immediately in the bottom half: Ortiz tripled to right, and both Mitchell and Vaughn scored to put the Brewers in front 2-1. Yelich followed with a single to left that brought Ortiz home, making it 3-1. New York trimmed the deficit when Brett Baty homered to right in the fifth, and Yelich tripled home Ortiz again in the sixth to push the margin back to 4-2. The Mets got the tying run to the plate late, with Alvarez singling home Taylor in the ninth to make it 4-3, but they could not complete the comeback.
Christian Scott took the loss for New York, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits over 3.2 innings with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Logan Henderson worked five innings for Milwaukee, striking out 9 while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with no walks, and picked up the win. Trevor Megill closed it out for his 16th save of the season, though he allowed a run in his one inning of work. New York's bullpen covered 4.1 innings and allowed 1 run, while Milwaukee's relievers covered 4.0 innings and gave up 1 run as well.
The win pushed Milwaukee to 64-38, first in its division, while New York fell to 43-60. Semien remains one run away from 1,000 career runs after Tuesday's homer.
