Gerrit Cole made this one look simple for six innings. Chicago's ninth-inning rally made it uncomfortable, but the Yankees escaped Rate Field with a 3-2 win that came down to control on the mound and one big swing in the second.

Cole allowed just four hits over 6.0 innings, striking out seven and walking two without giving up a run. The right-hander needed 99 pitches to get through six, and he handed a clean game to New York's bullpen. His line earned him the win, improving him to 4-5 on the season with a 3.57 ERA.
New York did its scoring in a single second inning. Anthony Volpe doubled to center to bring home Domínguez and give the Yankees a lead they would not relinquish. Max Schuemann followed with a double to left that scored both Grisham and Volpe, making it 3-0. That was all the offense New York would need.
Anthony Kay took the loss for Chicago, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts. The White Sox bullpen of Tyler Schweitzer and others kept the game close by combining for 3.2 scoreless innings, but Chicago couldn't find offense against Cole. The White Sox finally got on the board in the ninth when Chase Meidroth homered to left, a two-run shot that also brought home B. Montgomery and trimmed the deficit to 3-2. David Bednar came on and worked around two hits to close it out for New York, picking up his 22nd save of the season.
The Yankees improved to 61-46, extending their winning streak to two games. Chicago fell to 55-51 with its second straight loss.
