Eduardo Rodriguez did not need much help. The Pirates managed five hits and never found a way across the plate, and Arizona's 3-0 win at PNC Park was decided as much by what Pittsburgh couldn't do as by what the Diamondbacks did.

Rodriguez went eight innings, allowing five hits and walking one while striking out two. He did not surrender a run. The right-hander improved to 10-3 on the season, carrying a 2.48 ERA, and turned the ball over to Brandyn Garcia, who worked around a walk in the ninth to strike out two and secure the save.
The game's only offense arrived in the fourth. Gabriel Moreno homered to center, a 407-foot shot that scored Carroll and turned a scoreless tie into a 2-0 Arizona lead. Moreno finished 1-for-3 with a walk and both RBIs on the night. Arizona added an insurance run in the sixth when Max Kepler singled to right, scoring Moreno and pushing the score to 3-0.
Jared Jones took the loss for Pittsburgh, allowing 3 runs over 6.0 innings with four hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Carmen Mlodzinski followed with three scoreless innings in relief, scattering two hits without a walk. The Pirates' bats stayed quiet all night, unable to solve Rodriguez and unable to answer Arizona's fourth-inning burst.
The result extended Arizona's win streak to two games as the Diamondbacks improved to 57-52. Pittsburgh, sitting third in its division, fell to 55-54 with its second straight loss.
