The Marlins never let the Mets get comfortable. Miami scored in the first, added more in the second, tacked on a run in the fourth and broke it open in the sixth, and New York could never quite close the gap in a 6-2 loss at Citi Field.

Javier Sanoja supplied the biggest swing of the night, going 2-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Otto Lopez scored twice and drove in a run, while Liam Hicks reached base four times with two hits, two walks and 2 RBIs. Griffin Conine added a two-hit game with a homer of his own, and Esteury Ruiz chipped in two hits at the top of the order for Miami.
Lopez opened the scoring in the first when Hicks singled to left to bring him home, giving Miami a lead it would not relinquish. The Marlins doubled that lead in the second when Sanoja homered to left, scoring Stowers ahead of him. New York answered in the bottom half as Tyrone Taylor homered to left, driving in Semien, but Miami pushed the margin back to two runs in the fourth on Lopez's sacrifice fly that brought Ruiz home. The sixth inning put the game away for good: Conine homered to right, and later in the frame Hicks singled to right to score Lopez, capping a two-run inning for the Marlins.
Tyler Phillips worked five innings for Miami, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win. New York starter Zach Thornton lasted 4.2 innings and took the loss, charged with 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Lake Bachar closed it out for Miami with three scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 2, and was named the game's top performer.
Miami's bullpen was spotless behind Phillips, covering 4.0 innings without allowing a run, while New York's relief corps allowed 2 runs over 4.1 innings in a losing effort. The Marlins improved to 57-55 and extended their winning streak to two games, while the Mets fell to 47-65 and have now dropped two straight.
