Cincinnati needed a pair of wild pitches to finish off Oakland. The Reds trailed 4-3 entering the eighth, then scored twice on errant throws from Hogan Harris to escape with a 5-4 win at Great American Ball Park.

J. T. Ginn kept the Athletics in position all night, working 6.0 innings and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5. He matched zeroes with Reds starter Brady Singer, who also went 6.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts. Neither starter factored into the decision. Julian Robert Garcia picked up the win after a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts, and Emilio Pagan closed it out for his 12th save, working around 2 hits in a scoreless ninth.
The eighth inning turned the game. With Oakland leading 4-3, De La Cruz scored on a wild pitch from Harris to tie it at 4-4, and Stewart moved to third on the same play. Moments later, Suárez walked and Stewart scored on another wild pitch from Harris, putting Cincinnati ahead 4-5 for good.
Oakland built its lead in pieces. McNeil's single to right brought home Soderstrom in the fourth to make it 1-0, and Wilson's double to left in the fifth scored both Butler and Walton for a 3-0 cushion. Cincinnati answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth, as De La Cruz's single to left brought home both Rodríguez and McLain, and Stewart's sacrifice fly to right tied it at 3-3. Oakland briefly regained the lead in the seventh when Bolte scored on a throwing error by De La Cruz, making it 4-3, before the wild-pitch sequence in the eighth flipped the game to Cincinnati for good. Harris was charged with the loss, allowing 2 runs on 0 hits while walking 3 in just 0.2 innings.
De La Cruz finished 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Stewart added a hit, an RBI and a run of his own. Henry Bolte led Oakland's offense going 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Jacob Wilson drove in 2 runs on a double. The loss dropped Oakland to 45-68, extending its losing streak to 6. Cincinnati improved to 54-58, its second straight win.
