Miami led twice and tied it twice, but the seventh inning belonged to Los Angeles. A fielding error and a two-run homer turned a tie game into a lead the Marlins never took back, and the Angels held on for a 4-3 win at loanDepot park.

Mike Trout set the tone in the first inning, homering to right center to put the Angels ahead 1-0, and he was at the center of the decisive frame as well. In the seventh, Trout reached first on a fielding error by Josh Ekness that allowed Josh Lowe to score and tie the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Nolan Schanuel homered to center, scoring Trout ahead of him and putting Los Angeles up 4-2. Trout finished 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored, while Schanuel went 1-for-3 with the two-run shot and a walk.
The go-ahead swing came from Schanuel's blast, which turned a tied game into a two-run cushion the Angels would not surrender. Before that, Miami had tied things up in the fourth when Kyle Stowers walked with the bases loaded to bring home Owen Caissie, and again in the sixth when Stowers singled to center to score Jakob Marsee. Stowers finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs, doing the bulk of Miami's offensive work.
Miami pulled within one in the ninth when Leo Jimenez singled to center and Agustin Ramirez scored, but the Marlins could not complete the comeback. Josh Ekness took the loss after allowing 3 runs over 1.2 innings in relief, his first loss of the season. Marlins starter Tyler Phillips allowed 1 run over 4.0 innings before turning it over to a bullpen that surrendered 3 runs across 5.0 innings. Angels starter George Klassen matched him, allowing 1 run over 4.0 innings, and Jose Fermin worked around 3 hits in the ninth to close it out for his first save of the season. Shaun Anderson picked up the win after 0.1 innings of relief, improving to 2-0.
The result snapped a losing skid for Los Angeles, which improved to 45-71 and extended its winning streak to two games. Miami, held back by the late-inning turnaround, fell to 58-59 and has now lost four straight.
