Neither team could hold a lead for long. The Blue Jays and Phillies traded scores across the middle innings before Toronto found enough cushion to survive a ninth-inning push, winning 5-4 at Citizens Bank Park.

Josh Smith powered the Toronto offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and three runs scored. His solo shot to right center in the eighth inning made it 5-2, adding a run the Phillies would need to overcome late. Andres Gimenez also went deep, homering to right in the second inning to open the scoring.
The game changed hands repeatedly. Gimenez's second-inning homer put Toronto ahead 1-0, but Philadelphia answered immediately when J.T. Realmuto singled and Marsh scored on a fielding error by left fielder Sanchez, tying it at 1-1. Toronto went back in front in the third on Alejandro Kirk's sacrifice fly, only for Bryce Harper's single to bring Schwarber home and tie it again at 2-2. Toronto took the lead for good in the fourth when Nathan Lukes singled home Smith, making it 3-2. Kirk added a second sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 4-2, and Smith's homer in the eighth pushed the margin to 5-2.
Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler worked 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts, but did not factor into the decision. Toronto's Lazaro Estrada picked up the win after 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits with 2 walks and a strikeout, his first win of the season. Tyler Rogers closed it out for his fourth save, though he allowed 2 runs on a hit and 3 walks in the ninth as Philadelphia rallied. Bryson Stott scored on a Trea Turner fielder's choice, and Crawford came around on Harper's infield single, pulling the Phillies within 5-4 before Rogers finished the game.
Philadelphia fell to 62-55, snapping its momentum with a one-game losing streak, while Toronto improved to 55-62. Harper finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, and Justin Crawford and Kyle Schwarber each doubled and scored, but the late rally fell just short.
