Arizona had trailed for most of the night. Then the ninth inning arrived, and Ryan Waldschmidt ended it in one swing. His two-run home run to center off Edwin Diaz turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 win, sending the Diamondbacks off the field in celebration and the Dodgers to their seventh straight loss.

Waldschmidt finished 1-for-4 with the go-ahead homer and 2 RBI, his blast scoring Jorge Barrosa ahead of him. It was the signature swing of a game that had gone back and forth without ever separating the two sides by more than a run. Nolan Arenado also went deep for Arizona, a solo shot in the second inning that opened the scoring.
The decisive sequence came with the Diamondbacks down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth. Diaz, on in relief, walked one batter into trouble and then surrendered the homer to Waldschmidt that scored Barrosa and turned the game around in an instant. Before that, Los Angeles had clawed back from behind: Freddie Freeman's fielder's-choice grounder brought home Hunter Feduccia in the sixth, Tommy Edman's single scored Mookie Betts to tie it at 2-2 in the seventh, and Andy Pages' home run to left center in the eighth put the Dodgers up 3-2. None of it held.
Diaz took the loss, his first of the season, after retiring just one batter and allowing 2 runs on a hit and a walk. Roki Sasaki had given the Dodgers a chance to win, working 6.0 innings and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and just 1 walk before handing off to the bullpen, which conceded 2 runs over 2.1 innings. For Arizona, Merrill Kelly worked 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 4 strikeouts, and Kevin Ginkel picked up the win after a scoreless inning of relief with 2 strikeouts.
The result pushed Arizona to 62-55 and extended its winning streak, while Los Angeles fell to 69-47 with its losing streak now at seven. Kelly, who struck out 4, sits at 991 career strikeouts, 9 shy of 1,000, and is also nearing 200 career games played with 193 so far.
