This one belonged to the pitcher's mound. Eury Perez was in complete control all night, and a two-run cushion off Paul Skenes was all Miami needed. The Marlins beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 at loanDepot park.

Perez was the story. Over seven innings, he allowed just three hits and no runs, striking out seven while walking two on 100 pitches. He departed with the shutout intact, and the bullpen made sure it stayed that way, with Peter Fairbanks closing out the ninth for his 18th save. Perez picked up the win, improving to 6-9 on the season with a 3.39 ERA.
Miami's offense needed only a handful of plays. Esteury Ruiz gave the Marlins the lead in the third inning, homering to left field on a 384-foot shot that turned a 0-0 tie into a 0-1 home advantage — a go-ahead blast the Pirates never answered. Two innings later, Xavier Edwards reached on an infield single to shortstop, and Ruiz came around to score when shortstop Gonzalez's throw went wide, pushing the lead to 0-2.
Paul Skenes was solid himself but came up on the wrong side. He worked five innings, allowing five hits and 2 runs (1 earned) with four strikeouts and a walk before handing off to Yohan Ramirez, who tossed three scoreless innings in relief. Skenes fell to 9-11 on the season, with his ERA now at 3.88. Pittsburgh managed only four hits all night and never threatened to answer Miami's lead.
The win was Miami's third straight, pushing the club to 61-59. Pittsburgh, now on a two-game skid, dropped to 58-63.
