The Rockies broke it open early and made it hold up late. Colorado scored four runs in the second inning, the biggest blow a three-run homer from Brett Sullivan, and turned back a persistent Arizona rally to escape Chase Field with a 6-4 win.

Sullivan finished 1-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs, his blast to right field traveling 402 feet and erasing an early Arizona lead in one swing. Zac Veen added to the damage two innings later, going deep to right center for a two-run shot that pushed the margin to 6-1. Veen finished 1-for-3 with the homer and 2 RBIs, while Willi Castro scored twice and drove in a run of his own, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Arizona had struck first. Ketel Marte singled to right in the first inning to bring home Corbin Carroll, giving the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. But Colorado answered in the second: Castro's single to center brought in Hunter Goodman to tie it, and Sullivan followed with his three-run homer, sending Moniak and Castro across the plate and putting Colorado ahead 4-1. Veen's fourth-inning homer, scoring Castro, extended the lead to 6-1.
Arizona chipped away without ever threatening the lead. Gabriel Moreno doubled home Gerardo Perdomo in the fifth, Ildemaro Vargas walked in a run in the seventh that scored Ketel Marte, and Carroll went deep in the eighth to cut it to 6-4. Carroll finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, an RBI and two runs scored, but the comeback stalled there. Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly took the loss, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits over 5.0 innings, while Ryan Feltner picked up the win despite allowing 2 runs on 7 hits in 5.0 innings for Colorado. Arizona's bullpen kept the deficit at two, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings, but the offense could not find the final runs. Jordan Romano closed it out with a scoreless ninth for his 12th save of the season.
Colorado improved to 48-73 and has won two straight, while Arizona fell to 64-58 and has now lost two in a row. Kelly sits at 993 career strikeouts, 7 shy of the 1,000 milestone, and is also 6 games shy of 200 career games played.
