Jac Caglianone carried the Royals' offense all night, going 3-for-4 with a home run and 5 RBI. His two-run homer to right center in the fifth put Kansas City back in front, 5-4, and he was at the center of the decisive seventh, reaching on an infield single that scored Bobby Witt Jr. on a throwing error before coming around to score himself on Massey's go-ahead hit. Caglianone is hitting .273 with 22 home runs and 58 RBI this season.
The seventh inning turned the game. With the score tied 6-6, Caglianone singled to right and Witt scored on a throwing error by shortstop Neto, putting Kansas City back on top. Massey followed with a single to right that brought home Caglianone, capping the 7-6 scoreline that held the rest of the way. Kansas City had also erased an early deficit in the fifth, when Caglianone's homer put the Royals up 5-4 after Los Angeles had taken a 3-4 lead in the third on doubles and singles from Schanuel and Neto.
Los Angeles starter Grayson Rodriguez lasted four innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, while Seth Lugo went 4.2 innings for Kansas City and was charged with 5 runs on 7 hits. The Angels' bullpen unraveled in relief, as Tayler Saucedo faced four batters and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits without recording an out, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Nolan Schanuel drove in 4 runs on a 2-for-4 night with a double, and Josh Lowe added a solo home run in the sixth that briefly gave Los Angeles the lead, but the Angels' bullpen could not hold it.
Alex Lange picked up the win for Kansas City after working a scoreless-adjacent inning that still included a run allowed, improving to 2-7 with a 6.23 ERA, and Steven Cruz closed it out for his fourth save. The Royals improved to 50-73 with the win, snapping their skid, while the Angels fell to 48-75 and have now lost their last game.
