Atlanta struck first, but Arizona's bats did the deciding work. The Diamondbacks turned an early deficit into a rout, piling up 13 hits and getting home runs from Nolan Arenado twice and Ildemaro Vargas once in a 10-3 win over the Braves at Truist Park.

Arenado was the story from start to finish. He went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and a walk, connecting in the third inning and again in the seventh. His third-inning shot came right after Gabriel Moreno had doubled in a run, and Arenado's two-run blast made it 6-2. He added a solo shot to left in the seventh to push the margin to 7-2. Vargas, who finished 1-for-5, supplied the other long ball, a three-run homer in the ninth that plated Moreno and Arenado as well.
Atlanta actually led first. Ronald Acuna homered to center in the first inning to make it 0-1, and Drake Baldwin later scored on a Michael Harris groundout to make it 0-2. But Arizona answered with a three-run second capped by Ryan Waldschmidt's go-ahead single that scored Tim Tawa, making it 3-2 and giving the Diamondbacks a lead they never gave up. Arizona added three more in the third on Moreno's RBI double and Arenado's two-run homer, then tacked on a run in the seventh and three more in the ninth on Vargas' blast.
Grant Holmes took the loss for Atlanta, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits over 3.2 innings with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts, and Atlanta's bullpen conceded 4 more runs in relief. Eduardo Rodriguez earned the win for Arizona, working 6.0 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks, improving to 12-4 with a 2.71 ERA. Atlanta answered briefly in the ninth on a Ha-Seong Kim groundout that scored Matt Olson, but it wasn't enough.
Arizona improved to 66-58, riding a two-game winning streak. Atlanta fell to 73-50 and has now dropped two straight. Acuna finished 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI, sitting one home run shy of 200 for his career and 10 RBIs shy of 500.
