For seven innings, nothing happened. Then everything did. The Miami Marlins turned a scoreless stalemate into a 7-1 rout of the Cincinnati Reds, scoring all seven of their runs in the final two innings at Great American Ball Park.

Eury Perez set the tone for that eruption by keeping the Reds off the board for six innings, allowing just two hits with five strikeouts and five walks over 100 pitches. He departed with the game still scoreless, having given Miami's offense every chance to break through. Nick Lodolo matched him for the Reds, working five scoreless innings on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts before handing things to the Cincinnati bullpen.
The floodgates opened in the eighth when Heriberto Hernandez homered to left, a go-ahead shot that put Miami up 1-0. The Marlins added to it right away as Griffin Conine walked with the bases loaded, driving in Agustin Ramirez to make it 2-0. Cincinnati answered in the bottom of the inning when Tyler Stephenson homered to center, but the Reds could get no closer. Miami then blew the game open in the ninth: Ramirez doubled to right to score Hernandez and Otto Lopez, and Javier Sanoja followed with a three-run homer to left that brought home Ramirez and Xavier Edwards, capping the five-run frame.
Cincinnati's bullpen could not contain the damage. Tejay Antone took the loss after recording just two outs, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks. The Reds' three errors compounded their struggles, and a lineup that managed only four hits had little answer for Perez or the relief work that followed him.
Josh Ekness picked up his first career win after a scoreless inning of relief for Miami, striking out one. The Marlins improved to 64-61 with the victory, extending their winning streak to two games, while the Reds fell to 59-64 and dropped their second straight.
