The Cubs needed extra innings to shake the White Sox loose, and Pete Crow-Armstrong provided the finishing touch. His second home run of the night, a two-run shot in the 10th, sent Chicago to a 7-5 win at Wrigley Field on a night that swung back and forth until the very end.

Crow-Armstrong went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and a stolen base. He opened the scoring with a solo homer to right in the first inning, then delivered again in the 10th, driving one to right field to score Kelly and put the Cubs ahead for good. He is now 30 home runs and 77 RBIs on the season, and he sits five stolen bases shy of 100 for his career.
The game turned decisive in the 10th when Crow-Armstrong's homer scored Kelly and put Chicago back in front, 5-7, after the White Sox had tied it in the ninth on Hoerner's RBI single that brought home Taylor. Before that, Chicago White Sox had grabbed the lead in the eighth when Benintendi homered to right center, scoring Murakami to make it 5-4. The Cubs had answered a three-run White Sox rally in the fourth, when Grichuk's three-run homer put Chicago White Sox ahead 3-2, with a two-run fifth built on two Chicago White Sox errors that scored Suzuki and Happ.
White Sox starter Herbert Smith did not survive the first inning, charged with 2 runs (1 earned) without recording an out. Luis Castillo settled in behind him but was tagged for 4 runs over 4.2 innings. Cubs starter Shota Imanaga struck out 10 over 6.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits, and Jacob Webb picked up the win after a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two.
The result improved the Cubs to 73-53, winners in their last outing, while the White Sox dropped to 65-59. Nico Hoerner also factored heavily, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs, part of a 14-hit Cubs attack that overcame four total errors on the day.
