The Miami Marlins scored twice in the ninth inning to walk off against the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Friday night at loanDepot park. Keibert Ruiz had given Washington the lead in the sixth with a solo home run to right field, his eighth of the season. The Nationals held that 1-0 advantage into the eighth, but Miami tied the game when Jakob Marsee scored on Javier Sanoja's line drive single to right. Otto Lopez followed with another single to right, scoring Sanoja to put the Marlins ahead 2-1.
Washington refused to go quietly. In the ninth, Daylen Lile singled to left field, scoring Jacob Young to tie the game at 2-2. But Miami answered immediately. With runners on base, Sanoja came through again with a ground ball single to center, bringing Ramírez home with the decisive run. Esteury Ruiz moved to third on the play, and Jakob Marsee advanced to second.
Ryan Gusto earned the game MVP honors with a scoreless four-inning start, allowing five hits with two strikeouts. Will Dion pitched three scoreless innings for Washington with four strikeouts. The Nationals' bullpen faltered late: Clayton Beeter took the loss after allowing one run in two-thirds of an inning, while Tom Cosgrove was charged with a blown save.
Miami improved to 65-64 and snapped a losing streak. Washington fell to 61-69, extending its losing streak to two games.
