Jacob Lopez anchored Oakland's pitching effort, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings while striking out nine. The Athletics' bullpen took over from there, with Elvis Alvarado, Hogan Harris, and Luis Medina combining to hold Houston scoreless while the offense mounted its comeback.
The Astros had seized control in the seventh inning, when Daulton Varsho homered to give Houston a 2-1 lead, and Jeremy Peña followed with a single that scored LaMonte Wade to extend the margin to 3-1. But the Athletics refused to fold. In the eighth, Lawrence Butler singled to right field, and Zack Gelof scored on the play to cut the deficit to one.
