Clay Holmes controlled the game for Chicago with a scoreless start, but the Diamondbacks' offense found its opening after his departure. Arizona's bullpen then held the Cubs without a run.
The Cubs built their advantage when Ian Happ homered in the fourth, bringing Seiya Suzuki and Michael Busch home. Busch later singled to bring Suzuki across.
