Thomas Saggese powered the Cardinals with two homers and three RBIs, while Jordan Walker added a homer and a double. The production gave St. Louis control before the Dodgers could find their footing.
Ramón Urías’s homer put the Cardinals ahead in the second. Thomas Saggese followed with another homer to extend the lead, and the Cardinals kept applying pressure in the third as Iván Herrera, Leo Bernal, Thomas Saggese and Nathan Church brought runners home. Jordan Walker’s homer later brought Iván Herrera across, and Joshua Baez added another homer in the seventh.
The Dodgers answered with Mookie Betts’ three-run double in the third and added further runs through Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Enrique Hernández, Kyle Tucker and Tommy Edman. But Eric Lauer surrendered the early damage, and Los Angeles could not close the gap despite scoring late.
