An early cushion carried the Pittsburgh Pirates past the San Francisco Giants at PNC Park. Pittsburgh seized control in the first and kept San Francisco from completing its late push.

Jake Mangum shaped the game with contributions on both sides of the ball, scoring twice and helping create another run. Oneil Cruz also set the tone by reaching base and scoring later in the game.
Oneil Cruz's walk brought Spencer Horwitz home in the first, giving the Pirates the lead. Jake Mangum was then hit by a pitch, bringing Bryan Reynolds across. In the sixth, Mangum's sacrifice bunt led to a throwing error by Reiver Sanmartin that allowed Cruz to score, while Jared Triolo's force out brought Mangum home. Triolo later lifted a sacrifice fly that brought Mangum home again.
The Giants found an opening in the seventh. Jung Hoo Lee's double brought Jonah Cox home, and Nate Furman's groundout brought Turner Hill across. Pittsburgh's relief corps kept the Giants scoreless after that rally, with Luke Weaver, Yohan Ramirez and Mason Montgomery helping close out the win.
Pittsburgh extended its winning streak, while San Francisco absorbed another loss. The game belonged to the Pirates because their early cushion survived the Giants' late answer.
