Miguel Amaya provided Chicago's biggest swing, homering to put the Cubs ahead and driving their offense during the middle innings.

Nick Gonzales tied the game in the sixth when his ground-rule double brought Bryan Reynolds home. Brandon Lowe then singled to bring Rafael Flores Jr. and Nick Gonzales across, giving Pittsburgh the lead it would not relinquish. Nico Hoerner's groundout later brought Michael Busch home for Chicago, but the Cubs could not complete the comeback.

Bubba Chandler earned the win after a solid start, while Carmen Mlodzinski, Luke Weaver and Mason Montgomery kept Chicago off the board in relief. Matt Boyd took the loss for the Cubs.

Pittsburgh extended its winning streak, while Chicago's losing streak continued. The game belonged to the late swing: the Pirates answered Amaya's power with Lowe's go-ahead single and then closed the door.
