Pena carried Houston’s offense with homers in the first and third innings. Yordan Alvarez added another homer in the fifth, with Pena scoring on the play.

Pena’s first homer was the go-ahead play. Kansas City answered when Isaac Collins scored on Carter Jensen’s double, but Alvarez’s homer brought Pena home and expanded Houston’s lead. Vinnie Pasquantino’s homer later trimmed the margin.

Hunter Brown earned the win after a strong start, striking out ten and allowing only one earned run. Michael Wacha took the loss after Houston’s power put the Royals under pressure. Bryan Abreu, AJ Blubaugh, Bennett Sousa and Josh Hader combined to hold the lead, with Hader closing the game.

Houston extended its winning streak, while Kansas City’s losing streak continued. The game belonged to early power and bullpen control from the Astros.
