Henry Davis provided the biggest swing for the Pirates, homering in the eighth with Ronny Simon scoring. Oneil Cruz also supplied important offense earlier, while the bullpen carried Pittsburgh through the finish.

Milwaukee opened the scoring in the second when David Hamilton singled and Joey Ortiz scored. Pittsburgh answered when Konnor Griffin doubled, bringing home Ronny Simon and Jared Triolo to take the lead. Oneil Cruz then singled to bring home Henry Davis and Konnor Griffin, and Brandon Lowe's hit by pitch brought Cruz across.

The Brewers kept pressure on the Pirates. Joey Ortiz scored on Bo Naylor's force out in the sixth, Garrett Mitchell scored on Sal Frelick's sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Naylor homered after an umpire review upheld the call. Mason Montgomery closed the game for Pittsburgh after Camilo Doval and Luke Weaver worked through the late innings.

Milwaukee's late push made the finish uncomfortable, but Pittsburgh's early surge and Davis' late homer gave the Pirates enough breathing room to hold on.
