Angel Martínez carried the Guardians’ offense, homering in the first inning and again in the fourth before later bringing José Ramírez home with a single. His power and continued production gave Cleveland control of a game that began at a fast pace.

After Zack Gelof and Donovan Walton scored Oakland’s opening runs, Chase DeLauter’s first-inning homer brought Steven Kwan and José Ramírez home and gave Cleveland the lead. Angel Martínez then homered to bring Jo Adell across the plate. In the third, David Fry’s double brought home Chase DeLauter and Angel Martínez, while Austin Hedges, Brayan Rocchio and Steven Kwan followed with scoring hits.

Oakland’s Donovan Walton homered with Zack Gelof scoring in the fifth, but the Athletics could not close the gap. Cleveland’s Slade Cecconi provided a scoreless start, and the Guardians kept Oakland off the board after the middle innings.

Cleveland extended its winning streak, while Oakland’s losing streak continued. The game belonged to the Guardians because of the early burst, with Angel Martínez at the center of it.
