Rice powered the Yankees with two homers, while Ryan McMahon supplied the biggest blow and helped anchor the attack. Gerrit Cole held the Rays in check long enough for the lead to stand.

Rice's homer in the first gave New York the lead. Ryan McMahon then singled to bring Spencer Jones home in the second, and George Lombard Jr. homered in the third. McMahon's grand slam followed, bringing Luis García Jr., Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jose Caballero across the plate. Rice homered again in the fourth, and Heliot Ramos later brought Ali Sánchez home on a sacrifice fly.

Tampa Bay's offense answered with Jonny DeLuca's double, which brought Liam Hicks home, and Cedric Mullins' homer. But Mason Englert's outing unraveled during New York's early surge, while Cole limited the damage and earned the win.

The Yankees' early burst ended the night with a clear margin, while the Rays' late answers never threatened to change the shape of the game.
