Kyle Stowers supplied Miami’s early breakthrough with a homer that brought Otto Lopez home. Kevin Gausman kept Chicago within reach, while the Marlins’ relief corps preserved the advantage after the teams traded scoring plays.

Stowers’ homer put Miami ahead in the sixth, but Dansby Swanson’s single brought Michael Busch and Ian Happ across to tie the game. In the seventh, Joe Mack’s groundout brought Agustín Ramírez home after a reviewed force play was overturned, giving the Marlins the lead they would not surrender.

Ryan Gusto and the Miami bullpen limited Chicago after the tie, with Cade Gibson earning the win and Sandy Alcantara closing the game. Ryan Rolison took the loss for the Cubs.

Miami extended its winning streak, while Chicago’s losing streak continued. The game stayed quiet for five innings, then turned on two late scoring moments and a narrow Marlins margin.
