Carter Jensen carried Kansas City's offense with two home runs, including a homer that tied the game in the second and another that pulled the Royals even again in the eighth. Jac Caglianone also helped keep Kansas City within reach with a double and a single that brought home Bobby Witt Jr.

Angel Martínez opened the scoring with a single that brought Steven Kwan and José Ramírez home. José Ramírez later put Cleveland back in front with a sacrifice fly, and David Fry's homer brought Jo Adell home as the Guardians regained the advantage. After Jensen's eighth-inning homer tied the game, José Ramírez's walk brought Patrick Bailey home in the ninth and gave Cleveland the lead it kept. Chase DeLauter's walk, Petey Halpin's walk and Angel Martínez's double then extended the margin before Salvador Perez's homer brought Kansas City closer.

Nate Pearson took the loss after Cleveland broke through against him in the ninth. Hunter Gaddis earned the win for the Guardians, while Cleveland's bullpen protected the late advantage through the finish.

The Royals had answers throughout the night, but Cleveland's final rally supplied the game's defining turn. Kansas City found another response with Salvador Perez's homer, yet the seesaw had finally tilted toward the Guardians.
