Wesneski worked into the seventh while allowing only one earned run and striking out five. His control and efficiency kept Oakland from building momentum as Houston's offense continued to expand the margin.
Isaac Paredes opened the scoring with a homer in the first. Jeremy Peña's homer brought Cam Smith home in the third, and Yordan Alvarez's homer brought home Cam Smith and Jeremy Peña in the fifth. Houston then added to the lead in the seventh: Jose Altuve's single scored Jeremy Peña, Christian Walker's sacrifice fly brought Isaac Paredes home, and Lucas Spence's double brought Jose Altuve across. Peña homered again in the eighth, with Jorge Barrosa scoring, before Altuve's single brought Alvarez home and Spence homered in the ninth.
Jack Perkins was charged with the loss after Oakland's pitching gave up the early advantage and could not contain Houston's middle of the order. The Athletics managed only isolated scoring, with Zack Gelof bringing Lawrence Butler home in the fourth and Tommy White's single scoring Gelof in the seventh.
Houston extended its winning streak and maintained its place atop the division. The one-inning burst was the game's defining turn, leaving Oakland searching for answers as the Astros pulled away.
