The Arizona Diamondbacks placed Ryan Thompson on the injured list with a back injury.

The Game Network — Where History Is Kept

Thompson, 34, has been a workhorse out of Arizona's bullpen this season, appearing in 46 games with a 4-2 record. He has posted a 4.20 ERA and 1.55 WHIP across 40.7 innings, striking out 29 batters while walking 13. He has not made a start this season, working exclusively in relief.

The Diamondbacks sit at 60-54 on the season, second in the NL West and nine games back in the division. Arizona has dropped its most recent game and now must navigate the stretch run without one of its more frequently used relief arms. The current roster carries 13 pitchers, five infielders, six outfielders and two catchers.

Thompson's placement on the injured list marks his second roster move of the season, following a roster removal recorded on April 26.
