The Chicago Cubs placed Dansby Swanson on the injured list with an oblique injury. Swanson, 32, is off the Cubs' active roster as a result of the move.
Swanson has appeared in 119 games for the Cubs this season, hitting .213 with 86 hits, 18 home runs, 66 RBIs and 17 stolen bases across 403 at-bats. He has posted a .298 on-base percentage and .402 slugging mark for a .700 OPS, with 78 runs scored and 106 strikeouts.
The Cubs sit at 72-53, second in the NL Central and five games back, and have dropped their last two games. Chicago's roster currently carries five infielders, five outfielders, two catchers, 13 pitchers and one designated hitter, and Swanson's absence thins an infield group that will need to adjust in his absence.
Swanson is being tracked toward multiple career milestones, sitting 18 home runs shy of 200 for his career and 47 doubles away from 300. The injured list placement follows an injury report on Swanson from Aug. 17, after an earlier injury status change had been logged on May 1.
