Dave Roberts praised Tanner Scott on August 19, 2026, for recording a four-out save, saying he trusted Scott's own read on his readiness to pitch.
Roberts said he had hoped to keep Scott out of the game following back-to-back appearances, but the situation called for him. "For me it was one of those things you'd like to stay away from him, but how the game played out, these games are important and uh I trusted what he said," Roberts said. Of Scott's performance, he added, "he did a fantastic job tonight and he's a winner and he'll do whatever it takes to help us win a ball game."
Roberts called the three-game sweep at Coors Field important for the club, noting the team had been through a difficult stretch a week earlier. "A week ago we were in a dark place and it was just good to see us come back uh this series and play the way we're capable of," he said. He also credited Mookie Betts for a strong game, noting that teammates draw energy from him: "guys feed off of Muki's energy and when he's going well, guys, guys kind of want to follow that, feed off that energy."
Roberts evaluated Roki Sasaki's outing, saying he has improved considerably compared to the previous year and worked into the fifth inning under altitude conditions at Coors Field. He explained that Sasaki's improvement stems from not overthinking his mechanics, which allows his pitches to play up: "the low dart with the split off of it is really tough to manage as a hitter and so I think that he's been able to strike the split, shorten it, and the fast ball really plays up."
Roberts also praised Freddie Freeman for competing through a tough night at the plate. According to Roberts, Freeman struck out in his first three at-bats before finding a way to help the team win. He credited catcher Fetty for playing through discomfort to catch a couple of innings following a stretch of 13 consecutive games, saying it "says a lot about him." Roberts noted a misread fly ball at altitude cost the team a run during the series, though the Dodgers still won, and the player involved felt bad about the mistake.
Looking ahead, Roberts said the Dodgers would use their off day before opening a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who beat them in 2025. "We got the Pirates who, you know, put it on us in 2025. So, we got to go out there and still play well," he said.
