Kyle Tucker discussed his game-winning hit for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 22, 2026.
Speaking at a team press conference, Tucker said of the hit, "it was a game-winning hit. It was a clutch hit." He noted that he had gone without a hit at home for a stretch before the at-bat, saying, "I haven't had a hit in the last three at-homes."
Tucker credited the hitters ahead of him in the lineup for setting up the opportunity, stating, "the guys in front of me did a great job of getting on base and, you know, putting some pressure on the, you know, other pitching staff." He added that he does not track individual numbers, explaining, "I don't like to keep up with stats like that. Just trying to go up there and take the next bat and just try and have a good quality at bat."
He also praised the Dodgers' starting pitcher for recovering after a difficult opening inning. "Him coming back after especially after that first inning and putting up a lot of zeros after that was huge," Tucker said. He mentioned that the bullpen closed out the game following the offense's output, noting the team was "holding on to the win with our bullpen coming in shutting it down as well," and confirmed the team scored four runs and held on for the win.
Tucker acknowledged the fans' continued support, saying, "they've been doing their part and supporting us and we just trying to go out there and win games for them." He described his approach as staying ready for chances as they come, adding, "just as long as we have opportunities and, you know, take advantage of them when we can, it'll turn out well for us."
Tucker also expressed satisfaction in helping the starting pitcher, referred to as Scooball, secure a win after a string of strong outings since joining the team. "Finally got him to get a win for him. It was nice," Tucker said.
