Eric Lauer addressed his rough outing as a Dodgers pitcher on September 1, 2026.
Lauer evaluated his command as poor, with too many large misses and an uncertain feel for where the ball was going, saying, "my command wasn't very good."
He explained that he experimented with "couple different grips, different pitches, different sets, different arm stroke" while trying to improve consistency and movement. Lauer added that he was "trying to make in-game adjustments" to prevent mistakes from compounding.
Lauer acknowledged that his efforts to improve consistency may have gone too far. "Sometimes you can go a little too far and kind of lose yourself," he said, adding, "I might have been just tinkering a little too much in between."
He stated that he does not believe the outing exposed a major underlying problem: "I don't think that there's something glaringly wrong." Lauer's plan is to focus on what he does well, repeat it and avoid overcomplicating his approach, including by "focusing on what I do well and repeating that" as he gets back to the basics.
