Roki Sasaki said on September 22, 2026, that he pitched to one batter with tape on his finger without issues and expects to pitch without it in about another week.
“I pitched with it on, and it finished with no particular issues,” Sasaki said. He had expected to pitch about one inning but ultimately faced one batter after reaching the necessary pitch count, stating, “I might pitch an inning or so” and “I ended up facing one batter.”
Sasaki noted that he prepared carefully for his first appearance in the role, saying, “I prepared carefully today.” He also explained that he has been preparing for this type of role since the 2025 season: “I’ve done this since 2025.”
Regarding his assignment, Sasaki stated, “I just want to pitch wherever I'm put.” He added that his main goal in the bullpen is to contribute whenever needed: “I just want to contribute however I can and get the job done.”
Sasaki expects to be able to pitch without finger tape in about another week, while remaining cautious as the 2026 season begins.
