Povich was the story for six innings. He allowed seven hits but no runs, striking out seven and walking just one across 6.0 innings before handing off to a bullpen that covered the final three frames with three relievers, allowing one run on the way to the finish. Yennier Cano closed it out with a scoreless inning, striking out two for his second save of the season. Povich improved to 2-1 with the win, carrying a 3.91 ERA.
The Orioles broke through in the third. Alonso singled to center, and Cowser scored along with Franklin, turning a scoreless tie into a 2-0 lead in a single swing. That two-run single from Alonso, who finished with 2 RBI, stood as the game's decisive blow. Baltimore added an insurance run in the eighth when O'Neill homered to left center, a 373-foot shot that made it 3-1.
Los Angeles got its only run in the eighth when Grissom doubled to center and Schanuel came around to score, cutting the deficit to one. But it wasn't enough against Grayson Rodriguez, who took the loss despite allowing just 2 runs (2 earned) over 7.0 innings with six strikeouts. Rodriguez fell to 3-4 on the season, carrying a 7.24 ERA. Nolan Schanuel went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Angels, and Grissom drove in the lone run, but Baltimore's bullpen shut the door from there.
