Pete Crow-Armstrong carried the offense all night, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and four RBI. He answered Ohtani's leadoff shot with a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the first, then added a two-run double in the second before capping his night with a two-run homer in the fourth. His night lifted his season totals to 26 home runs and 69 RBI.

Ohtani hit two home runs of his own, a solo shot in the first and a two-run blast in the eighth that pulled Los Angeles within one, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI. Max Muncy's three-run homer earlier in that eighth inning had cut the deficit from 1-7 to 4-7, and the two blasts combined to bring the Dodgers all the way back to 6-7 before Chicago's bullpen shut the door. Dansby Swanson delivered the go-ahead hit in the second inning, doubling home Nico Hoerner to put the Cubs in front for good at 1-2, an edge Chicago never relinquished.

Eric Lauer took the loss for Los Angeles, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits over 4.0 innings with 0 walks and 1 strikeout, now 6-6 on the season with a 4.89 ERA. Shota Imanaga worked 5.0 innings for the win, allowing just 1 run on 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks, improving to 8-9 with a 3.60 ERA. Jacob Webb closed it out with a scoreless inning for his sixth save, though the Cubs bullpen as a whole gave up 5 runs over 4.0 innings as Los Angeles pushed the finish.

The win was Chicago's third straight, lifting the Cubs to 66-49. Los Angeles fell to 69-46 with its sixth consecutive loss, a skid that has undercut the Dodgers' hold on first place in the division standings.
