Milwaukee never trailed for long. Every time Pittsburgh found its footing, the Brewers had an answer, and a two-run response in the fifth put the game away for good in a 5-2 win at American Family Field.

Dustin May carried the load on the mound, working six innings and allowing 2 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He improved to 6-7 on the season, carrying a 4.30 ERA. The Brewers bullpen backed him up with three scoreless innings, and Chad Patrick closed it out with a scoreless inning to secure his 5th save of the season.

Jackson Chourio got Milwaukee on the board first, homering to center in the first inning to make it 0-1. Pittsburgh tied it in the fourth when Horwitz singled to center to bring home Reynolds, squaring the score at 2-2. But Gary Sanchez answered right back in the fifth, homering to left center to put the Brewers ahead for good, 2-3. Turang added an RBI single later that inning to score Pratt, and Milwaukee tacked on another run in the sixth when Vaughn singled home Mitchell, pushing the lead to 5-2.

Braxton Ashcraft took the loss for Pittsburgh, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings, falling to 11-5 with a 4.08 ERA. Brandon Lowe supplied the Pirates' lone extra-base damage with a solo homer to left center in the fourth, and Horwitz drove in the tying run later in the same frame, but Pittsburgh's bullpen allowed a run in three innings of relief as the deficit held.

The win extended Milwaukee's winning streak to three games, improving the Brewers to 72-43 and holding their spot atop the division. Pittsburgh dropped to 57-60, its third straight loss. Sanchez, who finished 2-for-3 with the homer and an RBI, sits at 198 career home runs, two shy of the 200 milestone.
