The Red Sox trailed 2-0 entering the ninth inning, but a sudden burst of offense at Fenway Park gave them an improbable victory. Boston scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off 3-2 against the Giants, erasing a two-run deficit that had held firm through eight innings.

Blade Tidwell had been masterful for San Francisco, allowing no runs over 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts and just three hits. The Giants' bullpen, however, could not hold the lead when it mattered most. Caleb Durbin scored on Eli White's single to center to make it 2-1, then Nick Sogard tied the game with a double to left that brought home Andruw Monasterio. Wilyer Abreu's fielder's choice, which the Giants challenged unsuccessfully, scored White with the go-ahead run and ended the game.
Patrick Sandoval started for Boston and allowed two runs on five hits over 5.2 innings, striking out six. Wyatt Olds earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief. Sam Hentges took the loss after allowing two runs in just one-third of an inning.
Boston improved to 70-59 and extended its winning streak to two games. San Francisco fell to 52-77, dropping its third consecutive game.
