Washington chipped away but never caught up. In the fourth inning, José Tena's single scored Abimelec Ortiz on a throwing error by Otto Lopez. The Nationals added another run in the fifth when Dylan Crews doubled to center, driving in Daylen Lile. But Miami's early cushion proved sufficient. Jakob Marsee homered in the fourth to push the lead back to three.
Eury Perez anchored the Marlins' pitching effort, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings while striking out four. Jake Irvin took the loss for Washington, giving up four runs on six hits in six innings. Miami's bullpen—Josh Ekness, Calvin Faucher, Michael Petersen, and Tyler Zuber—combined for four scoreless innings to close out the game.
Miami improved to 66-64 and extended its winning streak to two games. Washington fell to 61-70 and dropped its third consecutive game.
