Junior Caminero helped keep the Rays within reach with a home run in the sixth, while Jonathan Aranda also homered earlier in the game. Liam Hicks opened Tampa Bay’s scoring with a single that brought Yandy Díaz home.

The game turned in the seventh. Yandy Díaz’s single brought Richie Palacios, Cedric Mullins and Taylor Walls across, with a throwing error by Luis Rengifo adding to the rally. After San Diego drew even, Chandler Simpson’s single scored Jorge Mateo and gave Tampa Bay the lead it would not relinquish.

Ty France supplied San Diego’s biggest response with a home run that brought Manny Machado home in the sixth. Jake Cronenworth had earlier doubled to bring Dustin Harris across, but the Padres could not answer Tampa Bay’s final push.

Kevin Kelly earned the win, and Bryan Baker closed the ninth for the Rays. The late swing extended Tampa Bay’s winning streak while San Diego absorbed another loss.
